Well. Fuck Mastodon. A friend has an account on a different server. Apparently they are all not connected so I can't follow them if I am not on the same server. So I need to create a new account? What is this shit? Utterly disappointed
@manifestival Well, I tried. It didn't work. So it is a no go. The user experience is a joke for me at this point.
@gullevek @manifestival unless the server is blocked. Very few servers are blocked.
If you need help finding your friend you can either search their name in the search box above the compose message box, or copy paste the URL to their profile in there.
If they are on a blocked server you can't communicate at all, but if they are in a silenced server you both just need to have added each other to follow and you're good to go.
@maloki @manifestival I tried to find them in the search box, but to no vain.
I finally found out I had to use <username>@<mastodon server name> to remote follow.
I am still confused why I could SIGN up with the same credentials on the other server too. I now double exists. That makes no sense
@manifestival @gullevek you don't have to sign up to more than one server. Only it you want to try a different local.
@maloki @manifestival but, now that I have two accounts, isn't that confusing? Shouldn't that sync to other servers?
@manifestival @gullevek yes it can be confusing, you can ask the admin on one of the servers to remove that account, and it would be less confusing for you.
@maloki @manifestival I will do that. No need to confuse people who want to search me
@manifestival @gullevek and no, it's not built to sync accounts across servers, only let you talk to other servers.
You can look at it like email in that regard. How Hotmail can talk to Gmail etc.
@maloki @manifestival Ok. that makes perfect sense. I just created a "hotmail" account while I already had a "gmail" account. All clear.
@manifestival (well, generally you can, but some instances don't federate with each other or have some blacklisted for various reasons)
@gullevek what server are they on
@boots ttps://octodon.social/
@gullevek search [their username]@octodon.social
@gullevek AHAHAHAHAHA, you have to reply full name there, console cowboy.
@DNA THIS IS CONFUSING MATE!
@gullevek easy as pie. you aren't THAT old. ;)
@gullevek heheheheheh, takes time.
@gullevek
I'd just like to interject for moment. What you're refering to as Mastodon, is in fact, OStatus/Mastodon, or as I've recently taken to calling it, OStatus plus Mastodon. Mastodon is not an social network unto itself, but rather another instance of a fully functioning OStatus microblogging platform made useful by open-source licensed, freely developed protocols, and vital system components comprising a full microblogging standard as defined by W3C.
@fearisfreedom Well, then nobody should hoot it as the next twitter, if it isn't
And nobody should proclaim it nazi-free. It's actually full of nazis, such as myself https://noagendasocial.com/media/duHqFG6yk5Jia2gqXC0
@gullevek what instance are they on? (cc @TheKinrar )
@masklayer @TheKinrar They are on ttps://octodon.social/ [I figured out how to remote follow people, I had to use domain as the domain on the sever I AM on, not my email domain]
@gullevek Oh, yeah, that interface is a bit confusing. You can also search for people (it's above the post composition box) and follow them that way.
@gullevek No, you shouldn't need another account.
@randynose I found that out now.
I wish I would have gotten some introduction help after the first time I signed up. So I would have know how to do those things.
@gullevek not even the slightest bit true. you can still follow people in a difference instance, or as you call it, a "server"
