20 min into my 3 (or 4th?) install. This is whats called the brute force method. I feel I'm getting closer. Last install I made it to a broken grub menu.

avoid this computer if you want to run Linux

HP convertible x360 11-ab0xx

it shouldn't be this hard to get Ubuntu working on a fresh install. gotta be some hardware problem.

over 10 min sitting at the "running grub-install /dev/sda" part of install.

i'm done with this. sadly will install win10 back on this machine.

@eliasg maybe something's wrong with the installation medium?

@Matter nope, tried using my ubuntu 18 live USB that already installed perfectly on my other system. Still.fails at installing grub.

@vector disabled. fast boot disabled.

I'll try ubuntu then win 10, if that fails,
Win 10 then elementary os.

@eliasg hopefully, you can get it to work I was thinking about getting that laptop to dual boot Ubuntu/Win10

@vector it seems to be a grub/boot record problem. always fails installation during grub related stuff.

also this laptop has one of those SSD/sata hybrid drives which I'm completely unfamiliar with.

@eliasg Dell and Lenovo computers are Linux friendly
