hmm which #eReader should I buy. i'm trying to avoid Kindle as they are hard to buy in Taiwan.
Pocketbook Touch Lux 3
https://www.pocketbook-int.com/us/products/pocketbook-touch-lux-3
Kobo Clara HD
https://us.kobobooks.com/products/kobo-clara-hd
Tolino EPOS
https://www.thalia.de/shop/tolino-epos-ebook-reader/show/ (not sure where I can buy this online to ship to Taiwan though)
@SlowRain Yes, no Amazon for sure.
I really enjoy e-ink screens. Reading on a tablet just has too many opportunities for distraction imho.
Pocketbook looks cool. Swiss company. Supports PDF, PDF (DRM), EPUB, EPUB(DRM), DJVU, FB2, FB2.ZIP, DOC, DOCX, RTF, PRC, TCR, TXT, CHM, HTM, HTML, MOBI, ACSM, JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF too.
I emailed their support and they gave me the Alibaba site where they sell them: https://shop111724807.world.taobao.com/?spm=2013.1.1000126.2.M3XvRY
Easy for us to buy in TW.
@SlowRain i remember seeing somebody post some FOSS replacement for Kobo firmware.
Was it Ocherbook? https://github.com/ccoffing/OcherBook
anyways, Kobo looks the most hackable although I'm reading that KORreader works on Pocketbook too.
@eliasg
Keep me posted. I'm interested in open-source & easily hackable tech--even if I don't fully understand the ins & outs of it.
@eliasg
Avoid Kindle because Amazon is evil.
Would you be interested in a tablet & reading app? Should help avoid vendor lock-in with the hardware.
