I lent Β£150 to the New Leaf Food when it began in early 2012. Not loads, but a significant sum for me then and now.

It was a workers coop, where all employees equally own the business. Their aim was to supply local and/or ecological foods with as little packaging as possible: they were ahead of the curve back then

Today, ~9 years later, the coop is doing fine and paid me back the Β£150!

Surprised to hear about David Graeber's death. He played an important role in helping to facilitate the emergence of a new political-organizing praxis in NYC where I met him in anti-war assemblies before OWS.

USS Abraham Lincoln and Imperial Star Destroyer.

Note particularly, the similar gray tones.

I went to a Protestant/Evangelical church when I was I was growing up.

Reading a bit of history now, and it blows my mind that basically any reference to 'the church' in the UK before 1500 means the Roman (Empire!) Catholic church.

A friend of mine who teaches elementary school, taught her class, β€œdon’t yuck my yum”

It was like a class mantra, all the kids knew and understood the phrase. So, if a kid brought a bean burrito for lunch, and another kid said β€œgross! I hate beans” burrito-kid could just say β€œdon’t yuck my yum”

It became the perfect phrase when one student liked something another student hated it. Quickly, it moved from the tangible (food, smells, textures) to the intangible (music, religion, quality)

By the end of the year β€œdon’t tuck my yum” was woven into the culture of the class. They actually used the phrase LESS by then, because yuckers would check themselves before tearing anyone down.

And that class of second graders moved to third, secure in the knowledge that it’s ok to love the things you love, even if other people don’t.

Are you 'sharenting'? The term describes parents who, w/out consent, share pictures of/details about their children on social media.

Your child has the right to control their digital footprint. Kids spoke with @nytimes directly about why it's not okay: nytimes.com/2019/09/02/opinion

I remembered how wikipedia is pretty much the galactic source of truth, and what's written there matters. I'm also quite involved with how people (esp. voluntary, bottom-up collectives) make decisions.

The CDM article gets 300+ page views per day, and spikes with occupations, etc: it's being used. It needs some improvements, and I don't want to do them alone!

Transfixed by the horrific beauty of these popsicles made entirely of polluted water collected from Taiwan's rivers, lakes, beaches, and ports.

Thesis: having plants in your environment influences you to think more ecologically.

Action: get nice plants into places where legislators work to subtly influence policy.

Question: does anyone know of studies which confirm my thesis?

Reading into Polish history is heartbreaking πŸ‡΅πŸ‡±
