I just learned that perl6 is part of the Ubuntu 18.04 Universe package set. https://packages.ubuntu.com/bionic/perl6 #perl6 #winning
@tyil Hi - if by old release you mean the dependency that says "Rakudo (>= 2015.12)" I too was worried! But its just a version indiciator of greater-than 2015. If you click on the Rakudo link, you'll see its 2018.03 - the latest release.
@donpdonp Ah, that sounds a lot better already. Will they actually keep updating Perl 6 with new releases, though? Or will Ubuntu be stuck at 2018.03 for the next two years?
@tyil good question. the changelog looks encouraging - constant updates for years http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/r/rakudo/rakudo_2018.03-1/changelog
@donpdonp Nice. Let's see how they keep it up once its out. Maybe we won't have to rely on 3rd party installers for Perl 6 on Ubuntu, making it easier for newcomers to get started with the language.
@donpdonp That's a *very* old release and I would not recommend using that one.
