since not a lot of people seem to have gotten the memo, here's another reminder that i'm now dn3s@cybre.space <3

web smells: URLs longer than a couple hundred chars, dozens (or hundreds) of separate requests for simple actions

one thing i'm learning about myself is that i have way less tolerance for terrible enterprise stuff on weekends.

@dn3s yeah, well, I had a bot runnning agains masto's auth and one day it stopped working because the API method changed without deprecation, from one day to the other =P
I know your post is good, but heck, no, people don't treat APIs any better than any other protocol XD

REMEMBER: you don't release a new API version without docs; you shouldn't release a new UI without updated guides.

CONSIDER: your end users probably hate you even more than your downstream devs, and there's more of them.

IDEA: treat UI designs with the rigour we've learned to treat APIs. prefix all your URLs with a semver-compliant version number, redirect un-prefixed requests to the latest prefix, let people keep using the last several major versions, have clear, consistent deprecation policies and support windows for old versions.

oh good their docs have screenshots that just don't at all match how their UI looks now

i take back my specific criticism. azure just generally has a really bad UI and trying to even describe it isn't worth it

i hate when people come up with their own UX concepts for no reason. like in Azure, WTF is a "blade"? some sort of view apparently

would be nice if okcupid's political/current-events questions weren't all entirely US-centric

Oh hey look! Someone did up a CGI rendering of a 💾 emoji and then 3d-printed a bunch of them!

How weird is that??

#np the sound of waiting for an early morning bus, from @chr's slices of life ep

a cool breeze blows. cars flick by, but only occasionally. a lone bird sings in the distance. a couple lonely feet tread down the sidewalk; one comes to rest nearby, a fellow traveller. the bus's pneumatic brakes squeal as it pulls in with the huffing of a diesel engine. alas, it is the wrong bus.

@TipsyTentacle "oh god please come back we're hemorrhaging users and we're terrified"

facebook doesnt even give me real notifications anymore
"you havent posted in forever"
"YOUR FRIEND POSTED FOR THE FIRST TIME IN FOREVER"
"it's random friend birthday!!"
"if you want more likes for your page, post more!!"

what the fuck, facebook
