the spread of journalism should be determined by the general public. I wish the #fediverse realized this is more important than having the perfect place to hang out with like-minded people.

that's what made Twitter great early on. it was the place that great writing could go viral even if it wasn't in a major publication. users decided via RT and maybe some commentary. that's how culture is supposed to work. but ads and algorithms slowly killed that. making that thrive again is what the #fediverse should be about, as open and widely used as the internet, but with endless capacity for innovation and no corporations taking a piece of it. it should be our killer app.
