So now you have to keep paying to be able to keep using the ink that you have in your own ink cartridges in your own printer!

Tell your friends and family to never buy an HP printer again, or get stuck with this shit boingboing.net/2019/02/08/inkj

I'm a die-hard fan of print debugging. Most of the time I want to see the whole control flow at once. Breakpoints show one place at a time and you have to keep the jumps in your head. It's like using a GPS to find your way out of the carpark.

Him, mid twenties, fresh out of college, first proper job in his life. Thinks he's seen it all and knows it all, just appropriate for him to make blanket, stereotypical comments about an entire industry.

We've all been there, myself included. But please: try and don't be that kind of person. It's really, really embarrassing.

#pkgconf 1.6.3 is now out!

I have moved #pkgconf development to sourcehut (run by @sir): https://git.sr.ht/~kaniini/pkgconf

This update actually has a very *important* change: it fixes a major grammatical inconsistency with version string parsing that has been present since the original freedesktop pkg-config implementation was released.

Updating to this version is strongly encouraged.

This bug was observed on the RPM bug tracker, and you can read about it there: https://github.com/rpm-software-management/rpm/issues/789

How bad you have to fuck up to get a website looking like this?

In times like these, I'm so angry at the world.

Dear everyone who is considering making a video of yourself talking rather than just writing the *exact same words* into a text file, a blog post or a PDF:

Unless you're specifically targeting people who literally cannot read...

Please don't.

Sincerely, A Person Who Doesn't Have Literal Free Hours To Hear You Slooooowly Say Something It Would Take Me Five Seconds To Read And Also I Can Ctrl-F It

Writing Java for the first time in quite some time. I forgot just how many classes you have to create, and that you have to give them all useful names.

Back when I did Java all the time, I never gave it much thought, but now I realise just how many things I have to provide names to. These are things that would be just part of a single line of code if I had used Lisp.

"You're just an old fart yelling at clouds," I hear you say. Yes. Yes I am. If it's one thing that irks me more than anything else is that I've been writing software for more than a quarter of a CENTURY now, and that level of experience and widsom seems to be summarily ignored in favor of the whims of a market known by almost everyone to be dangerously unhinged.

ok I think I have maybe reached a new low of nerdism, but,

John Gustafson's 'posits' floating point format is a thing of beauty and I am in awe
