I’m at the point in my career where there is nowhere else to go except management, and I am too focused on managing my indie studio to spare enough energy for that at my day job. My boss seems baffled that I don’t seem to aspire to be promoted. I feel strangely powerful

@Xibanya Ten years ago, with my previous employer, I got promoted to manager. I was only adequate at it, and I really didn't enjoy it.
I'm now at the top level I can be now without doing management, and I'm perfectly fine with it.
My division manager/VP is completely mystified by it though. He tried to convince me to "move up" to department manager, and I turned him down cold.
When did it become a bad thing to be proud and satisfied with doing what you are good at?
