This is only tangential to Mads' thread about bodies, but we lost something specific when clothing became mass produced instead of made to order, you can really internalize the idea that you're too short/fat/etc for "normal" clothes
It's a shame to hear people say they just need to lose 10 pounds to make things fit, when the shapes you can cut fabric into are easily changeable, but the idea that you are wrong and the clothes are right is pervasive
