Stripe is now officially available in five more European countries: #Czechia, #Romania, #Bulgaria, #Cyprus, and #Malta. https://stripe.com/blog/stripe-launches-in-five-more-european-countries
If you live in one of those countries and you use Liberapay to receive donations, then you should go to your “Payment Processors” page and connect a Stripe account: https://liberapay.com/about/me/payment/
If your country still isn't supported by #Stripe, you can preregister: https://stripe.com/global#signup-form
@Liberapay Hungary seems to be in progress of going back to medieval ages so I'm not surprised here but I always thought of Croatia being surprisingly modern for Eastern Europe. Why are they excluded?
@Wraptile We don't know exactly how Stripe works internally, but it's unlikely that any country is being excluded on purpose. Adding support for a new country requires some work, and apparently that work hasn't been done for Croatia and Hungary yet.
did you realize that you are advertising a product without explaining what it is?
May I suggest something like:
Stripe (The new standard in online payments ) is now officially available in five more European countries: #Czechia, #Romania, #Bulgaria, #Cyprus, and #Malta. https://stripe.com/blog/stripe-launches-in-five-more-european-countries
this may make the message meaningful. I don’t like to sound harsh, but actually the message just says “something is now available”.
@Liberapay How open source is stripe?
@inigoortega Not much. All their core software is closed source, even the client-side JavaScript that customers have to run, which is a problem for us: https://github.com/liberapay/liberapay.com/issues/1279
However, their non-core tools and libraries are open source and on GitHub: https://github.com/stripe
To be fair, the entire payment processing industry is built on closed source software, Stripe isn't an exception.
With these 5 countries, Stripe is finally available in the entire Eurozone. However, it's still two countries short of being available in the entire EU, as #Croatia and #Hungary still aren't supported yet.
