Soil and mulch procured, as well as 2 varieties of clematis...I couldn't resist. Those got planted; the apple trees will be tonight. Also, successfully installed a new valve on the hose spigot. Yay, me...then I knit for awhile on a blanket before bed. There was a Chicken Nugget Cesar salad in there, too...

I have apple trees to plant tonight...but I can't bring myself to muster the motivation to go by the home store on the way home, to say nothing of the digging, planting, and mulching...

I could just go to Carondelet Park for free compost and mulch. Honestly, though, the mulch is pretty trashy...as in a fair amount of actual trash, because the peeps of my fair city can't be bother to put yard waste only in the "Yard Waste Only" bins. The mulch is good, though...recycled xmas trees, mostly.

Do you have to pay Roombas, or just let them keep what they find on the floor?

I couldn't even count how often this has happened to me!

Last night, with just my boyfriend, we laid Mr. Daisy to rest in the garden. We sprinkled dried lavender & catnip in the ground, wrapped his body carefully in lavender-infused cheese cloth & placed him gently in the ground. More dried lavender & catnip, expression of regret for the unfortunate outcome & appreciation of his presence in our lives, then careful backfilling of the earth by hand. We then planted crocuses & cat grass, so every spring, there'll be lovely purple blooms where he lay.

Treatment would be not only very expensive, but, as a feral, would also subject Mr. Daisy to added stress from all the handling, anesthetic, and chemo treatments. So, we've made the hard decision to euthanize. 😿😒

We are quite sad that he won't be greeting us at night anymore, but Mr. Daisy will come home tonight so we can put him to rest in the garden that provided him with some level of food and shelter.πŸ±πŸŒ–

Daisy Update πŸ’”

They've determined, sadly, that the abscess on Mr. Daisy's face was, in fact, a large tumor growing in his oral cavity and pressing against his eye. I've consulted with a couple close friends and, of course, my wonderful boyfriend, for whom Daisy is very special. 😽

Mr Daisy is about to be anesthetized to test him for FIV and FelineLeuk. A course of treatment will depend on those results. Say a prayer, send some vibes, do what you do...πŸ†

This is Lincoln, a young pup who showed up in my back alley several months ago. Emaciated, with a finished coat of fur, we started giving her kibble and water when she'd come around. Eventually, we were able to find a no-kill shelter in Pacific, MO, which is where she now resides. She's gotten medical care, her coat has filled in, and, when we last visited her at the shelter, she's got a healthy layer of fat! This is the work that feeds my soul.

This is Jean, our yard warden. He showed up a couple years ago, the very day after we had to say goodbye to Mama Peach, the house matriarch. We feed him, make sure he has water, give him a monthly flea treatment...and we built him a little house.

In the meantime, dug out three rose bushes that were here when I bought the house and planted ten lilac saplings in their place. Roses are nice and all, but thorns... Also, imagine that fucking lilac hedge in a few years time!
