@HerraBRE A similar analogy is legal. For example, someone has a potential civil case issue that they want to pursue, they start doing a search on it on Google or ask online, they get feedback. Which I think is OK. But when it comes to the real application of it, the mileage can vary.
So, I think it's good to be aware of your own symptoms then have a professional / specialist to do the assessment which is what you are doing. Seeing or noticing the symptoms is usually the prompt for people to see someone - for example, family members are usually the ones to notice dementia symptoms before they reach out to a GP.
I've never been to a GP for these issues, so I don't know what the process ends up being but yes in Australia, you need a GP referral in some cases before getting specialist care.
