I get so annoyed when any media says Apple invented the smartphone. They weren't the first. The iPhone was an iteration in a long line of the phone's evolution. You can argue they were the first to create a really usable interface, but they weren't the first.
The LG Prada was the first "slate" formfactor smartphone with a capacitive touch screen. Apple has certainly made significant contributions to the field, but they no more invented the smartphone than Amazon invented the ebook reader.
This really emphasizes to me the idea that "history is written by the winners". So many people actually believe the Kindle was the first ebook reader, when there had been ebook readers for years. They were just the first to reach the mainstream. But because they reached the mainstream, history has decided that the Kindle was the first, period.
